The Loire Terrace

1
At Onzain (Veuzain-sur-Loire), sand extraction and the natural dynamics of the river have turned the narrow sandbank of the early 20th century into a partly wooded alluvial bank. The Terrasse de Loire trail invites you to discover this history, with its exceptional views over the river and the Château de Chaumont-sur-Loire. At the end of winter, the site is decked out in a carpet of white undergrowth: the Perce-neige (snowdrops). A precious, fleeting moment before the arrival of a butterfly, the very rare Bréphine ligérienne, on a sunny day in March. A ‘Croquis de Loire’ walking and art trail offers a different way to discover this magical place. Grab your paintbrushes and pastels and take a seat on the appropriate desks!
