Conférence : Entendre un « souhait de mourir », quelle place pour la médecine et les soins palliatifs ?

In the advanced or terminal stages of a lethal disease, it is not uncommon for a patient to express a “wish to die”. This is always a particularly complex subject, from a relational, emotional, ethical and clinical point of view. When faced with these words, what are the possible readings, definitions and support? In most situations, the role of doctors and nurses is to assess, listen and understand, as part of a diagnostic approach, but also to provide relief, support and, in some cases, make decisions, as part of a supportive approach. This lecture by Dr. François Chaumier will provide an opportunity to share thoughts and clarifications in the light of current knowledge and the speaker?s experience in palliative medicine.
