The Château de Troussay, still inhabited, was built at the end of the 15th century. The Loire Valley historian and archaeologist, Louis de Saussaye, inherited it in 1828. A friend of Prosper Mérimée and, like him, a precursor of heritage conservation, he incorporated precious elements of old decor from prestigious regional monuments that had been abandoned. A beautiful 16th, 17th and 18th century furniture completes the ensemble. The English-style park is adorned with age-old trees of various species. The picturesque outbuildings house a Sologne museum, evoking “La Closerie de Raboliot”, the legendary poacher. Listed in its entirety on the ISMH, Troussay combines the artistic and refined allure of the Loire Valley Châteaux with the family and rural atmosphere of the Sologne estate of yeste

The English-style park, planted with rare, centuries-old trees and embellished with two 17th-century pavilions, is also listed in the supplementary inventory of historical monuments and is home to a few Ouessan black sheep, amusing rabbis and an aviary of gallinaceous birds.
