Explore the southern area of Saumur, with its vineyards and cave dwellings, along a circuit which reveals the region’s outstanding heritage.

Take the time in Saumur to explore the streets of the old town. This city of art and history is renowned for its wine, its gastronomy and art of living, in addition to being a capital of equestrian activities. The Loire à Vélo cycle route, which lies to the west of Saumur, near Thouet*, will take you through charming villages and their troglodyte houses, a specificity of the region.
Make a stop at Doué-la-Fontaine, renowned for its unusual underground worlds, including fossil rock quarries and Bioparc, a unique form of troglodyte zoo
Continue to Puy-Notre-Dame, a quaint country village nestled between vineyards, ramparts and a 13th-century church.
Head into the Thouet Valley, the fortress town of Montreuil-Bellay and the villages built from tuffeau stone, along a section of the cycle trail which is common to the Vélo Francette route, before arriving back in Saumur.
