This loop on the Loire à Vélo cycle route, starting in Angers, promises days full of visits, encounters, nature and heritage...and all by bicycle. Who could ask for more?
Day 1: Angers - Savennières by train, then Savennières / Thouarcé by bicycle (41km)
Take the train from Angers to Savennières.
Join the Loire à Vélo cycle trail and head towards Thouarcé. Once you’ve crossed the River Loire, make a stop on Ile de Béhuard to explore this charming site. You’ll be won over by the romantic atmosphere of this UNESCO World Heritage-listed island, with its tiny chapel, flamboyant nature and quaint laneways.
Continue on your way and admire the vineyards, landscape and simplicity of this region, which make pedalling so enjoyable! Look out for the wine estates of Layon in particular… Don’t hesitate to stop off and meet with these passionate wine growers who will be happy to share their secrets and treat you to a tasting session of their liquid gold!
Spend the night around Thouarcé in the accommodation of your choice. There’s just one tourist accommodation option in Thouarcé, so make sure you book in advance!

Day 2: Thouarcé - Saint-Mathurin-sur-Loire (42 km)
Cycle towards Brissac. Stop to admire the estate and its castle, the highest in France. With 7 floors, 204 rooms and a superb landscaped park, it well deserves its title of Giant of the Loire Valley.
Continue to Loire-Authion and park your bike to visit Loire Odyssée. Dive into the depths of the last wild river, discover its fauna, flora and history. An unforgettable journey to the heart of the River Loire.
Spend the night in the vicinity of Saint-Mathurin-sur-Loire and enjoy a wonderful sunset and the peaceful atmosphere of the river.

Day 3: Saint-Mathurin-sur-Loire - Bouchemaine (27 km)
It’s time to climb back on your bike and head for Angers.
Go through La Daguenière, then the Parc des Ardoisières in Trélazé. Make a stop here to stroll through the impressive landscape, visit the Musée de l’Ardoise slate museum to discover a local resource and know-how through demonstrations in traditional slate splitting, exhibitions and more.
Next, visit the Château d’Angers and its majestic gardens, heritage buildings and the famous Apocalypse Tapestry. The castle and its estate have a lot to offer!
End your tour at La Pointe, a former harbour village at the meeting point of the Maine and Loire rivers.
