Abbey of Fontevraud: women’s spirit

The Royal Abbey of Fontevraud is a unique place. When it was built, nearly a millennium ago, its monastic order was unusual in that it was mixed. This incredible place was directed by abbesses of royal blood for nearly two centuries. It was a sort of “perfect dwelling place” dedicated to prayer and work. Today, the Abbey is a venue for history, culture and gastronomy.
